What is Yoga Nidra?
Yoga Nidra, which literally means yogic sleep, is an a highly refined, effortless and surprisingly powerful deep relaxation practice that comes to us from 4000 year-old Tantric teachings. It is a guided relaxation practice that systematically relaxes the physical, mental and emotional systems, allowing the release of subsoncious tensions and tendencies that inhibit a full experience of vitality, potential and joy.
The effects of accumulated tensions in the body-mind have the effect of compacting the soil of the subsconscious mind, making it increasingly difficult to fully support the growth of new directions in our lives. Our experience becomes shaped by previous memories and patterns, and over time we can become too tired or discouraged to make real change in our lives and to fulfill our true potential.
Yoga Nidra can change that. It works to gently till the soil of the subconscious mind through a systematic unwinding and releasing of physical, mental and emotional tensions.
Why Practice Yoga Nidra?
1) Yoga Nidra practice is effortless and suitable for everyone.
All you do is lie down, close your eyes, and listen. The CD guides you through a deeply restorative form of meditation, without needing to sit in a certain posture or attempt to concentrate. You lie down, you listen. Thats it. You can do it before you fall asleep, or at any other time of day.
2) Yoga Nidra is restorative for the physical body and nervous system.
We live in an over-stimulating culture that taxes our nervous systems, our physical bodies, and our emotional responses. Day after day, tensions build up and we continue on, unaware of the amount of tension we are carrying until we become exhausted, depressed or ill. Yoga Nidra helps us unwind and release all the levels of hidden tension we carry, freeing up vital energy to experience true relaxation and more creative energy every day.
3) Yoga Nidra practice helps achieve life goals.
Each Yoga Nidra practice begins with planting a sankalpa or intention, for something we wish to manifest more fully in our lives. By combining this positive affirmation with the benefits of the practice, we are able to reach life goals more easily. This is because the Yoga Nidra practice is designed to help release the very things that act as hidden obstacles to achieving and manifesting the things we most deeply desire in our lives.
4) More restorative than the deepest sleep
Traditional teachings say that Yoga Nidra is 4 times more relaxing than sleep. In fact, it takes us into the deepest state of sleep, while guiding us to retain a conscious thread of awareness, allowing us to release deep-seated internal tensions while we are there.
